DAY 59
FRIDAY 30TH, MARCH, 2012
SKERRICHA TO BADNABAY – 9 MILES 4 HOURS
MORRIS, DEREK, KEITH AND ALEX
TOTAL DISTANCE WALKED SO FAR 880 MILES
Three day walking was planned for this trip and as usual we set off early stopping for breakfast at Inverness before driving on to the start point at Skerricha near Portlevorchy. Weather conditions were dry but cool and cloudy when we set off walking about 1130 thru Skerricha and on passed the Adventure School where we left a good track and made our way up the hillside. Walking on heather, bracken and very boggy grass made underfoot conditions a bit more difficult as we made our way above Loch a Chadh Fi to Rubha Na h-Airde Bige. On the opposite side of the loch we could see the very picturesque hamlet of Ardmore. Moving back inland we walked round the large inlet to Meall an Ulbhaidh. From here we skirted Loch Laxford passing several lochans before dropping down the hillside to join the main A838 road. At this point Alex recovered his bicycle which we had left earlier and cycled off to recover our minibus while the rest of us walked on to Laxford Bridge. On crossing the bridge we took a path along the south side of the river towards Laxford Bay passed what appeared to be an old boat house and followed the east side of the tidal mudflats at Traigh Bad na Baighe to the finish of the days walk at Badnabay.
Summary; A good testing walk in the time available. Very soft underfoot condition most of the way which made it more difficult.
Highs; Some lovely views
Lows; The long drive up.
