DAY 57
SUNDAY 23RD, OCTOBER, 2011
SHEIGRA TO KINLOCHBERVIE – 8 MILES 3 HOURS
MORRIS, DEREK, KEITH, PHIL, AND BILL
TOTAL DISTANCE WALKED SO FAR 857 MILES
This walk was done out of sequence as we needed the full day Saturday to complete the longer more challenging walk from Rhiconich to Portlevorchy. After a full and hearty breakfast, Eddie, the landlord at our B&B very kindly drove us to the start of today’s walk at Droman. The dreich weather of the previous two days had gone and we set off in lovely sunshine with blue skies. Walking from the pier we made our way round the point to the lovely beaches at Polin and Oldshoremore. Leaving the beach we joined a vehicle track from Oldshoremore for a short distance before we made our way up the rocky hillside round the point at Eilear Na Mola. There were some testing rocky scrambles on this stretch and we gained height towards a Lochan before descending back to the sea edge opposite the island of Eilean a Chonnaidh. On nearing Loch Clash we again had to make our way up the hillside to avoid the steep sloping cliffs on the approach to Kinlochbervie. Walking the coastline from Kinlochbervie passed Badcall, Achriesgill to Rhiconich proved too hazardous and walking on this stretch of road a dangerous alternative so the days walk was terminated at Kinlochbervie.
Summary; A nice walk with lovely beaches and some fine seascapes. Some testing rock scrambles on the last stretch.
Highs; The beaches
Lows; Not being able to walk the last stretch.
