DAY 118
WEDNESDAY 15 MARCH, 2017
ISLE OF WHITHORN TO GARLIESTON
9 MILES 4 HOURS
MORRIS, BILL AND PHIL
DISTANCE WALKED SO FAR 1536 MILES
Our evening meal last night in the Steam Packet Inn at Isle of Whit horn lived up to our expectations and we would highly recommend it.
After a good breakfast we loaded up the car and drove back to Isle of Whithorn where Bill dropped us near the harbour. We walked out of Isle of Whithorn on the B7063 road for a short distance then made our way through a small group of Chalets back towards the sea where we picked up an obvious path. We followed this path passed Stein Head and Cairn Head to Portyerrock Bay where we had to walk for a short distance on the road. Near Portyerrock we took a vehicle track in front of two small cottages which led us back to the sea edge at a small bay. After crossing a small river which runs out to sea in this bay we walked on passed White Port and Port Allen. Ahead we could see the stone arch at the ruins of the castle at Cruggleton Point. A nice woodland walk followed round Sliddery Point which took us to Cruggleton Bay and on into Garlieston the end of the days walk.
After lunch in the lovely Harbour Inn we made the journey home using the A75 through Dumfries which proved a much better option to our journey down on the A702.
Summary; A really nice easy walk with good underfoot conditions on an obvious path which is way marked most of the way with plenty gates and no dykes or fences to climb.
Highs; Great weather again. Some great views.
Lows; None …..other than the end of another trip.
