DAY 110
TUESDAY 17 MAY, 2016
TARBERT TO CLAONAIG
11 MILES 4.5 HOURS
MORRIS, GEORGE, BILLY, JOHN, STEWART AND BILL
DISTANCE WALKED SO FAR 1458 MILES
This walk was comparatively easy as we followed the well marked, well walked route of Day 1 of the Kintyre Way, a walk some of us had done before. This walk took us to the ferry point where we would cross to Lochranza on Arran tomorrow. Stewart and Bill walked the route in reverse, leaving the minibus at Claonaig and handing over the keys when we passed them on route.
It was a bit dull and overcast when we set off. Although a bit misty at parts during the walk it stayed dry.
The Kintyre Way path is excellent and the bright blue marker posts are easy to spot if maybe a bit sparse at one or two parts. That said the path is very distinguishable and it would be hard to wander off it.
Summary; A nice day’s walk. A bit up and down at the start and sure to get you warmed up. Not a lot to see on the way. Underfoot conditions good.
Highs; All very enjoyable….no particular highlights.
Lows; None
ACCOMODATION;
Our accommodation for the three nights on the mainland was at the Tarbert Hotel. The twin rooms we had we all a good size, nicely furnished and very clean. The bar meals were very good with a good selection. Breakfast, served in the dining room, was excellent and filling. We all found the staff very friendly and helpful. This is by no means a fancy hotel but was perfect for us and great value for the money. We would recommend it.
